Latina creators discussing gender issues in comics

A few of the creators who exhibited at our Latino Comics Expo San Francisco were interviewed recently by MISSION LOCAL.

The topic of discussion was 'Gender issues in the comic world'. Among those interviewed were Gabrielle Gamboa, Cyrstal Gonzalez, Marisa Garcia and Liz Mayorga, who in the interview talks about the influence of her Mexican culture on her work:

For Liz Mayorga the influence is apparent in such stories as “Inked,” where she explores her experience revisiting Mexico as a tattooed woman, as well as in publications where there is no connection at first sight, like Monstrous Love Stories, which takes graphic elements directly inspired by Mexican iconography.

2013 Latino Comics Expo San Francisco media round-up

The 2013 Latino Comics Expo San Francisco, held this past weekend in San Francisco, was another fun-filled event representing more growth and outreach for the country's premiere event showcasing Latino talent in the comics arts.

Thanks to the Cartoon Art Museum for generously hosting our 3rd show in their space, and we also extend our gratitude to our volunteers for keeping things running smoothly. Our sincere appreciation to Heritage Auctions for once again donating our printed materials to us. Thanks also to Leef Smith of Mission Comics for hosting our Saturday night after-party.

And of course, we thank the many artists and presenters at the Expo for their time and talent. They're really the reason we do this event, to showcase their talent and skills and passion for the art they create. And a heartfelt round of applause to all the fans who attended, and voiced their support for our efforts.
