LCX 2016 Panels & Presentations

All our panels are free to attend with admission to the Museum of Latin American Art. On Sunday, admission to the Museum is free. Seating is limited so please arrive early. All presentations taking place in the Screening Room located to the left of the Museum Lobby.

SATURDAY, August 6

11:30 - 12:15: LATINA POWER: A round table discussion with some of our female talent discussing issues on creating from their unique perspective. With Candy Briones, Liz Mayorga, Laura Molina, Vicko Alvarez Vega and Sara Woolley Gómez. Moderated by Standford professor Angela Becerra Vidergar.

12:30 - 1:15: Cartoonists Mario & Jaime Hernandez (Love & Rockets) in a one-of-a-kind conversation. They will discuss topics of interest to them, as well as important influences, favorite comics, pop culture, pet peeves of the Comics Industry and other fascinating items. Introduced by Latino Comics Expo Co-Founder, Ricardo Padilla.

1:30 - 2:15: Lucha-heroes in the Age of Tentpole Cinematic Universes. In an era of Avengers and Justice Leagues on the big screen, a look at a diverse array of new projects taking the Mexican masked wrestler superhero idiom into its sixth decade. Moderated by Keith Rainville, with Rafael Navarro, Matt Wallace and other TBA.

2:30 - 3:15: VIVA LOS COMICS. Five of our guests discuss their influences and passion about making comics and storytelling. With Raul the Third, Dave Ortega, Jules Rivera, Hector Cantu and Daniel Parada.

3:30 - 4:30: THE EL VERDE SHOW. El Verde, the Latino superhero stage play, performs a live reading of one of their short plays featuring their satirical hero. Featuring the talents of
Anthony Aguilar, Ramona Gonzales, Cristina Fernandez,
Daniel Penilla, Juan Enrique Carillo, Jesus Reyes and Oscar T. Basulto. Fun for all ages!


SUNDAY, August 7

11:30 - 12:15: In The Dark Comics: The Journey to Self Publishing: Come see Crystal Gonzalez (creator of comic series “In The Dark”) talk about how she got into self publishing. Find out tips, tricks, and what were the trials and challenges in the world of self publishing, as well as get sneak peaks into her newest comic projects, cartoons and more!
 

12:30 - 1:15: The Halloween Kid: From children's book to the small screen. Take a peek into the upcoming Halloween Kid Animated Special. Explore the steps involved with bringing the children's book to life with behind-the-scenes concept art and antidotes. A small Q & A to follow.
 

1:30 - 2:15: The Jim Lujan Cartoon Show. Filmmaker Jim Lujan will show you a selection of his weirdly wonderful cartoons and share clips from REVENGEANCE, his upcoming animated film created with animation legend Bill Plympton. (Recommended for mature audiences).
 

2:30 - 3:15: Please Deport Me Now. Political cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz makes a case for deporting him.

The Latino Comics Expo Los Angeles will be held the weekend of August 6 & 7 at the Museum of Latin American Art. The event runs from 11am-5pm, both days.


MOLAA is located at 628 Alamitos Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802. Admission to the Museum grants you entry to the Expo, panels & workshops.
